YOUR ART, YOUR CULTURE, YOUR WAY
IN PARTNERSHIP WITH KIMBERLEY ABORIGINAL ARTISTS
This program is offered to arts workers, culture workers, artists and art centre curators. The program will see intensive work undertaken with participants to develop their understandings of formal curatorial practices, and the development of alternate ways of evaluating, curating, displaying and interpreting art, cultural material and artefacts being produced in their communities and art centres. These alternate ways of working with cultural content and materials will be informed by and respond to Aboriginal ontologies, ways of knowing and ways of being.
Participants will develop curatorial practices relevant to their communities, within their art centres, and on a more personal level, reflect their own unique ways of perceiving, navigating, presenting and interpreting the world. Rather than provide training which focuses solely on sharing skills in western museological/curatorial practices, these workshops will look to both formal curatorial principles and practices while simultaneously exploring new modes of working with cultural heritage and materials in ways that reflect Aboriginal life and culture. The workshops will create an environment which fosters collaboration, exploration and open exchange of ideas and knowledge.
